Super Retro Retry

KEY FEATURES

• 100 micro-levels with a twist: The game serves up levels completely at random in every run thanks to a super-secret algorithm, and it reserves the right to flip them horizontally or vertically whenever it damn well pleases. No two runs are ever the same.

• Fast-paced, addictive gameplay: Specifically designed to give you instant adrenaline rushes. Ideal for quick, intense, and painfully fun gaming sessions.

• Dynamic soundtrack: The music evolves, mutates, and adapts to your pace and progress in real-time.

• Skin collection: Unlock a dozen unique skins. They aren't just cosmetic—each one comes with its own mechanical traits. Find the one that best suits your playstyle.

• Challenging yet fair controls: The control system might feel like a hurdle at first, but theoretically, you’ll master it in just a few minutes. Theory is nice, now go prove it.

• Minimalist purism: Easily distracted by fireworks? Turn off backgrounds, shadows, and even scenery objects to play in the cleanest, most abstract, and fluid way possible.

• Tricks up its sleeve: There are a handful of surprises and hidden mechanics the game won't tell you about. You'll have to find them out the hard way.

AND REMEMBER! In all this chaos, you will run into:

• Levels that look like an impossible torture, but are actually a walk in the park.

• Levels that look like a walk in the park, but will absolutely wreck your nerves.

• Levels so insultingly easy they’ll make you suspicious.

• Levels that will force you to stop and think for a bit.

• Levels that will make you question your own sanity and believe the game is broken.

• And well... other levels that are just kind of there.

THE TRIBUTE

As a child, I had the tremendous luck of having generous parents who gifted me a brand new Spectrum, a device that provided me with countless hours of fascination and entertainment with games filled with impossible levels. This game -my personal passion project for the past few years - is meant to pay tribute to that wonderful era of the early personal computers, the first arcades, and the first consoles.

THE TWIST

Although I was and still am passionate about games, I was not -and am not- extremely skilled at playing them. One of the things I have always hated the most is having to start over and over again from the beginning. That's why in SUPER RETRO RETRY the order of the one hundred levels changes each time, and due to this small change, another one emerged almost organically, which might seem much more drastic: the player has only one life. When there's no monotonous need to repeat the same levels again and again, the number of lives becomes almost irrelevant. Once you master the game, one life is enough to overcome all obstacles.

THE DISCLAIMER

When it came to developing the game, finding the right level of difficulty was quite challenging. I wanted the game to be challenging but not frustrating, and to convey to the player the feeling that overcoming the levels was always possible. What I didn't want, under any circumstances, was to artificially inflate the difficulty or unnecessarily lengthen the game. That's why an experienced player should not take more than a few minutes to complete it, although I trust that reaching that goal for the first time will take much longer.
